The question
Why do researchers want to test metformin as an aging drug?
Study design
Perspective paper (2016) laying out the rationale and design of TAME (Targeting Aging with Metformin). [1]
What they found
The authors argue that a trial using a composite of age-related diseases as its endpoint could establish aging itself as a target for drug development, using metformin as the first test case. [1]
Limitations
A proposal, not results. Metformin is a prescription drug.
What this does not mean
There is no proof yet that metformin slows aging in people without diabetes.
