- The question
- How strongly is aerobic fitness linked to how long people live?
- Study design
- Retrospective cohort of 122,007 adults who took treadmill tests at the Cleveland Clinic, median follow-up 8.4 years. [1]
- What they found
- Mortality fell as fitness rose, with no upper limit observed. Elite performers had about one fifth the adjusted mortality risk of the lowest group. [1]
- Limitations
- Observational, a clinical referral population, and fitness partly reflects genetics and existing health.
- What this does not mean
- No supplement replaces exercise. This is why our routines are built to sit alongside training.
